The Greenwich Village Art Show: Helen E. Hokinson New Yorker Cover Art

The Greenwich Village Outdoor Art Show is a perennial New York event which takes place in the vicinity of Washington Square Park. Helen Hokinson's uptown matron seems a bit out of place down in the bohemian Village, but nevertheless she shows off her impeccable credentials as a patron of the arts. The original art for this New Yorker cover from the spring of 1938 was initially priced at $3,500 or so on eBay. When the price was abruptly lowered to $899.99, the artwork was promptly sold to someone who, like this matron in mink, also appreciates the finer arts.
