The Boyne Valley is home to Newgrange, the well-known Irish passage tomb. Beneath the ancient mound is a single narrow passage leading to a cross-shaped tomb. The human remains were removed years ago. No photography is permitted inside the monument.

The entrance stone is below. The midwinter sun shines through the roof box above into the burial chamber.

The white quartz facade is a reconstruction. Ninety-seven original curbstones, some of them elaborately decorated, surround the monument.
